As a native Philadelphian that has relocated to New York City since completing her BFA in Recorded Music from NYU Tisch’s Clive Davis Institute and her MA in Digital Media Design for Learning from NYU Steinhardt, Kyra Williams is a multimedia artist, social entrepreneur, and

Combining all of her experience with her love for her hometown, Kyra’s building Stories In My Backyard (SIMBY); a Philadelphia based arts education and social change nonprofit that provides online and in-person learning to Black womxn and girls, starting with photography. As the founder and president of this developing organization, she’s already partnered with the Philadelphia School District’s TV Station, led photo workshops with middle and high school aged Black girls, received the 2021 Black Music City Grant from REC Philly, WXPN, and WRTI, and created a fundraiser and photo exhibit honoring Philly’s Black music herstory from Billie Holiday to Tierra Whack titled SIMBY Presents: The Voices of Sisterly Affection. Once an outdoor exhibit, this project is now available to view in virtual reality.
