Facilities FAQs

WHAT SORT OF EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE DOES THE DEPARTMENT USE?

The Clive Davis Institute's production facilities utilize a combination of analog and digital audio equipment - balancing traditional and modern technology, facilitating all production techniques from “old-school” analog to contemporary digital approaches, working in stereo or fully-immersive surround-sound. In its recording studios, edit suites, and music production lab, the department's Apple Macintosh computers host multiple digital audio workstations, including Pro Tools and Pro Tools HD, Logic Pro and Ableton Live/Suite. In addition to computer-based digital audio workstations, three of our four recording studios are equipped with Studer A827 two-inch, 24-track analog tape recorders. Our equipment collection also features a wide array of microphones and musical instruments, allowing tremendous creative flexibility.

HOW DO CURRENT STUDENTS BOOK A STUDIO?

All CDI students can book studio time through our booking system. Same-day bookings are unlimited (but competitive) and students can work on any project, personal or academic.

For academic projects, students are guaranteed studio time that can be booked in advance to allow for arrangements with outside musicians, engineers, producers, etc.
