As reported by Billboard today, The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music welcomes Julie Greenwald as Executive-In-Residence for the Spring 2025 semester. Working within the Institute’s music business curriculum, Julie will present marketing case studies, and hold workshops on business plan development. She will curate a series of conversations with industry executives, as well as participate in A&R pitch sessions with CDI students. As part of this unique executive residency, Julie will hold office hours at the Institute’s Brooklyn campus, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CDI students to work one-on-one with an industry veteran who has been ranked #1 on Billboard‘s “Women in Music” list five times.
Julie Greenwald previously was Chairman/CEO of the Atlantic Music Group. She has been integral to the success of Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Charli xcx, Cardi B, Kelly Clarkson, Coldplay, Lizzo, Gucci Mane, Janelle Monáe, Jack Harlow, Lil Uzi Vert, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, and Wiz Khalifa as well as award-winning projects such as the Original Broadway Cast Recordings of Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and Jagged Little Pill.
Julie is no stranger to teaching, having taught in the New Orleans public school system in the Calliope projects through Teach for America, after attending Tulane University. While on the hunt for a temporary job when she returned to New York, Greenwald took a role as Lyor Cohen’s assistant at Rush Management. After just 3 months, she was named Promotions Coordinator of Def Jam Records; a label that was started in an NYU dormitory! During Julie’s tenure with hip-hop’s most legendary label, she worked with LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Warren G and developed a roster that’s nothing short of historic including Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man, Redman, and Foxy Brown.
Following the merger of Island, Mercury and Def Jam Records, Julie alongside her mentor, Lyor Cohen, built Island Def Jam Music Group, into one of the world’s top performing labels.
