The first ‘song screening’ we did at CDI with publisher Benjamin Groff in Spring 2021 went so well that we’ve decided to do another! Songwriters and producers: this is your opportunity to receive constructive feedback on your original songs -- and advice on how to pitch them -- from a top music industry publisher, as he shares his unique insights on the art and business of songwriting. Join Benjamin Groff, for an online ‘song screening’ - you'll have the opportunity to submit songs in advance and he’ll select a few students who will then receive constructive critique. Even if you’re not a songwriter or if you’re not ready to submit your music, come and observe: everyone can learn something from taking part in the session.

Benjamin Groff
Benjamin Groff’s signings include Ryan Tedder, Kelly Clarkson, The Lumineers, Grimes, LMFAO, City and Colour, Big Freedia, Greg Kurstin, OneRepublic, Tiesto, Caroline Polachek, SOPHIE, Cut Copy, Kid Cudi, Cirkut, Savan Kotecha and TOKiMONSTA, to name a few. His 25 + year career has taken him to various music publishing companies, including BMG Music (5 Years) and EMI Music (5 Years). In 2006, Groff was hired by an early start-up, Kobalt Music Publishing, where he opened up the 1st U.S. office and continued to sign and solidify the company’s roster as Executive Vice President of Creative for 10 years. Since his run at Kobalt has become one of the Top 3 Music Publishers in the world and was ASCAP’s Publisher of the year in 2020. Today he runs his own boutique publishing company, Brill Building Modern Copyrights, and he is the owner / executive behind We Are: The Guard – a communal A&R resource / blog and early incubator label with over 100 releases achieving over 250 million streams. Benjamin is the author of the book “How Do I Get A Record Deal? Sign Yourself!,” and he is a graduate of songwriting and performance at Berklee College of Music.
