Week of Community 2024

Join us October 20-26, as we mark ten years of Community!

Engage with the vibrant artists, scholars, and entrepreneurs at NYU Tisch School of the Arts during our annual Week of Community. Join us to investigate the school’s breadth of scholarship and craft, and enjoy new experiences and conversations within our community. The week kicks off Monday, October 21. Don't miss the many program offerings, including lunches, showcases, and other special events. We'll see you there.

Also, come snag some halloween candy from the baskets in common areas of both Institute of Performing Arts and Center for Research & Study as they spread the joy of sugar and community spaces!

Sunday, OCTOBER 20

  • 2PM: Jam House 6 Show

    Collaborative Arts

    Join Collaborative Arts students from all 4 years as they present an interactive showcase of interdisciplinary work created over the span of 48 hours.

Monday, October 21

  • 8:30am: Week of Community Kick-off Breakfast

    Dean's Office

    Kick off Week of Community with breakfast hosted by Dean Allyson Green in the lobby at 721 Broadway from 8:30-9:30am. Mingle with classmates and colleagues and meet new potential collaborators!

  • 11AM: Take It Easy and Relax

    AMC and Human Resources

    Join the AMC and Tisch HR in the Dean's Conference Room on the 12th Floor of 721 Broadway from 11:00am - 12:30pm for relaxing projects like paint by numbers, coloring, and vision boards.

  • 12PM: Week of Community Kick-off Lunch at 370 Jay Street

    Dean's Office

    Visit Tisch's campus in Brooklyn at 370 Jay Street in the 4th floor lounge from 12-1:30pm and enjoy lunch hosted by Dean Allyson Green. While you're there, be sure to check out the homes of ITP/IMA, the NYU Game Center, and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.

  • 1PM: Build A Kit, Bridge Our Community

    Office of Diversity

    The Office of Diversity is organizing a service activity to build art kits for NYC DOE art students in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in this quick and impactful way to foster creativity. Join us in strengthening our ties with our neighbors and contributing to the vibrant artistic ecosystem of New York City.

Tuesday, October 22

  • 9AM: Values in Action: Building Our Creative Culture

    Office of Faculty

    In this interactive workshop for administrators and faculty, we will explore your own core values that drive your work at Tisch and how they shape your roles within the arts. Together, we'll examine where our personal values come from, why they matter in our professional and creative endeavors, and how they influence our decision-making, relationships, and careers. Workshop will be facilitated by Carrie Meconis, Senior Director of Faculty Development and Administration.

  • 3PM: International Student Coffee Hour

    Tisch Student Affairs

    Come mingle with the Tisch Office of Student Affairs at 3:00pm in the 370 Jay Street, 4th Floor -IMA/ITP Lounge for coffee, tea, and refreshments. All are welcome!

  • 4PM: Chill Lab

    Dance

    Chill Lab is a space for rest, restoration, napping, meditation, and chilling in community with low light and mellow sounds. Get your chill on. The event is located at 111 2nd Ave, Studio I, 4th floor from 4:00-5:00pm.

  • 5:30PM: Alumni Book Talk

    Photography and Imaging

    DPI is hosting an Alumni book talk in the 721 Broadway Riese Lounge from 5:30 - 7:00pm. The event will be moderated by Lorie Novak and features DPI Alumni Jess Ingram, Ali Smith, and Alice Proujansky.

  • 12PM: Annual HEAR US Mini-Fest

    Tisch Creative Research invites you to attend our annual HEAR US Mini- Fest (featuring students from Game Design, Grad Film, Graduate Musical Theater Writing, UGFTV, ITP, Photo & Imaging). This year's Mini-Fest is an informal showing of works and works-in-progress by the 2024 HEAR US Cohort.

  • 3PM: Future Imagination Community Workshare

    Tisch Creative Research invites you to attend a Future Imagination Community Workshare! Join 2024 Future Imagination Collaboratory Researchers Rose DeSiano, Greg Heffernan, Andrea Lauer, and Candace Thompson for some photo-transferring, bio-plastics, game-testing, soil microbe-y fun!

  • 5:30PM: Design Department Open Studio

    Design for stage and Film

    Everyone at Tisch is invited to come to an OPEN STUDIO to see the IN PROCESS work of the Department of Design for Stage and Film MFA set, costume, lighting and film designers at 725 Broadway 4th floor.

  • 6PM: Where to Watch a Movie in New York

    Student Affairs

    A presentation from a graduate international student from Russia. "Where to Watch a Movie in New York" explores New York's role in American cinema, covering the history of studios, Hollywood, and movie theaters. By the end of the lecture, everyone will leave with a comprehensive list of must-visit spots for unforgettable cinematic experiences in New York!

  • 7PM: Resonance, Dissonance and Art in Difficult Times: A Conversation with Anna Deavere Smith and Racquel Gates

    Art & Public Policy, Office of Diversity, Office of Global Strategic Initiatives

    Please join us for an evening of conversation with award-winning playwright, performer and NYU University Professor Anna Deavere Smith and scholar, film critic and Columbia University Professor Racquel Gates. They will discuss their groundbreaking theories regarding resonance and dissonance, and their courageous expansion of what is possible in the public sphere. The conversation will be moderated by Pato Hebert, Chair of Tisch’s Department of Art & Public Policy.

Thursday, October 24

  • 9:30AM: Movement and Conversations

    Dance

    Tisch Dance welcomes NYU community members interested in meeting and mingling with creative peers through movement exploration and meaningful conversation. Tisch Dance students and faculty will lead collaborative activities to facilitate introductions and build community.

  • 11:30AM: Radical Creatives Film Screening

    Tisch Creative Research

    Join Tisch Creative Research for a Screening of Emilia Hernesniemi's new film "Radical Creatives." “Radical Creatives” recognizes the potential of creativity as a force for global change towards a more attractive and nuanced future, weaving a compelling narrative that captivates the world of Finnish oddity at Aalto University and beyond, where tradition meets rebellion.

  • 5:30PM: 370 Jay Street Arcade Opening

    NYU Game Center

    Join the opening event of the 370 Jay Street arcade featuring a selection of a half-dozen games made by NYU Game Center students, alumni, and faculty. The event will be open to the public, and accompanied by a playtesting session where visitors can try out dozens of in-progress games being made by current students. Featuring a lecture by Nicole He, a local game developer and creative director of Crush House.

  • 6:30PM: A Red Becoming: Speculative Engagements with Indigenous Art - Joseph M. Pierce

    Art & Public Policy and Performance Studies

    This presentation explores how three contemporary Indigenous artists are reimagining Indigenous embodiment. Focusing on Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Jeffrey Gibson, and Raven Halfmoon, each artist offers a distinct though related technique for speculating on the possibilities of Indigenous representation.

  • 6:30PM: New Visions & Voices Film Festival

    Kanbar Institute, Film & TV

    New Visions & Voices Film Festival, hosted by Kanbar Institute of Film & Television, showcases student films made in intermediate level production classes at UGFTV.

  • 7PM: Public Lecture: Nicole He

    NYU Game Center

    Accompanying the arcade opening, there is public lecture from Nicole He, a local game developer and creative director of Crush House, a recent game about producing a reality TV show. The public lecture will start at 7 PM, in the auditorium right next to the arcade.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26

  • 11AM: NYU Tisch Future Artists Open House

    Global Strategic Initiatives

    NYU Tisch Future Artists Open House hosted by Global Strategic Initiatives from 11am - 1pm. The Tisch Spring Future Artists Program is a pre-college program that is FREE of charge, open to all eligible students, and centered on educational opportunities in studying in the arts with the same rigor and training offered in the undergraduate departments.
