Community Week 2024

Workshop

Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, 11:00am - 1:30pm

Instructor: Professor Rose DeSiano

721 Broadway, 8th Floor, Room 815

FIC Researcher and public artist Rose DeSiano continues her exploration of site-specific histories with a hands-on photo-transfer workshop tied to her creative practice, which focuses on reimagining photo archives to uncover lost or overlooked histories of communities and individuals.

Selecting NYU campus life as her site-specific influence, workshop participants will work with historical photos of NYU from the university archives and  photos from their personal cell phone archives to create photo composites using the printing making photo-transfer  process. This act of compositing bridges the present and the past, encouraging reflection on institutional history and our roles within it. By questioning and acknowledging our place in a larger, evolving community, participants are challenged to dig deeper, cultivate empathy, and recognize their connection to a shared history and their responsibility in shaping the future.
