Week of Community 2022

October 17 - October 21

NYU Tisch School of the Arts has a long tradition of convening to celebrate our community of artists, scholars, and entrepreneurs during the annual Week of Community. With so much going on around Tisch, this week presents an opportunity to explore the intersecting disciplines, environments, and experiences at our school. We kick things off Monday, October 17, and invite you to participate in the many program offerings, including conversations, showcases, games, and other special events. We look forward to seeing you there!

Monday October 17

  • 11AM: Diversity Open House

    Offices of Diversity & Strategic Initiatives

    Between the hours of 11am - 1pm, we will be offering light refreshments, an opportunity to meet the staff, and have a chance to learn more about & explore recent programming developed by the Office of Diversity for the Tisch community.

  • 2PM: Chair's Discussion: Ethics in Narrative

    Dramatic Writing

    Please join NYU faculty members Terry Curtis Fox and Suketu Mehta, co-founders of the Narrative Working Group at the NYU Institute for Public Knowledge, who will lead a discussion focusing on the ethics around the power, use, and abuse of narrative in print, broadcast media and beyond.

Tuesday October 18

  • 2:30pm: Hear Us Mini-fest

    Creative Research

    An informal showing of works and works-in-progress by the 2022 cohort of HEAR US awardees.

  • 5pm: Mirror with a Memory: DPI 40th Anniversary Exhibition

    Photography & Imaging

    The Department of Photography & Imaging presents a survey of work from faculty and staff spanning four decades and encompassing the varied nature of contemporary photographic practice. Curated by Editha Mesina. On view from October 11, 2022 - January 9, 2023.

Wednesday October 19

  • 8am: Breakfast in the Gallery

    Dean Allyson Green

    Please join us for a community breakfast, hosted by Dean Allyson Green. The breakfast is a great opportunity to check out the new Clive Davis Gallery, located in 370 Jay Street.

  • 10am: Pop-up Party Table

    Student Affairs

    Step right up and test your luck! Games, prizes, snacks, and more! The staff of Student Affairs will be hosting a little party table in the lobby of 721 Broadway. Come meet our team and learn about resources offered by our office - and try your hand at a special grand prize!

  • 5pm: Open Studio

    Design for Stage & Film

    All Tisch students are invited to come to an OPEN STUDIO to see the IN PROCESS work of the Department of Design for Stage and Film MFA set, costume, lighting and film designers.

Thursday October 20

  • 3pm: International Student Coffee Hour

    Student Affairs

    Please join us for the Tisch international student coffee hour on the 6th floor of 370 Jay Street at our Brooklyn campus. We supply the coffee, tea, and refreshments and you have the opportunity to have some great conversations and cultural interactions with both domestic and international students and administrators.

Friday October 21

  • 8am: Breakfast in the Lobby

    Please join us for a community breakfast, hosted by Dean Allyson Green, in the lobby of 721 Broadway. Enjoy grab-and-go pastries, fruit, coffee, apple cider, and hot chocolate.

  • 5:30pm: The Color of Care: Film Screening & Panel

    Creative Research

    A screening of The Color of Care, a documentary that highlights US COVID health disparities in minoritized communities, and panel discussion on health disparities and the role of healthcare workers and artists in disrupting health inequities.

  • First run Film Festival

    Undergraduate Film & Television

    NYU’s First Run Festival is the longest continuously running film festival in New York City. This annual festival culminates with the Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation Awards. Open to the public with a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccine + booster.

  • Polaroid Picture Booth

    Clive Davis Gallery

    As part of the Tisch Community Week 2022, The Clive Davis Gallery invites guests to take a polaroid picture with their favorite piece or artist to be included on the first floor gallery wall.

  • Kanbar Coat Swap

    Kanbar Institute of Film & Television, Office of Global Strategic Initiatives & Office of Diversity

    Do you have new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, gloves or mittens that you no longer want or need? Please bring them to the 9th floor at 721 Broadway for the Kanbar Coat Swap! We will glady receive your contributions at any time throughout the season, however, we hope to receive enough items before October 31st to get folks into warmer clothes before the worst of the chill settles in!
