Headshot of Simone Salvo

Simone Salvo is a lens-based artist and visual strategist working across the fields of documentary storytelling and creative technology. She is passionate about equipping journalists and activists with emerging tools to augment their work and impact. Simone served a global community of social justice-focused image makers for over seven years at the Magnum Foundation, most recently as Head of Creative Communications.

Curiosity led her to ITP, where she expanded her focus from how people engage with stories to how they can interact with them. Simone is the Communications Director for Adjacent, ITP’s online journal of emerging media, and supports the Design Lab. During her residency, Simone will continue an ongoing collaboration with her grandmother, exploring the nature of memory, activating a family archive, and bridging a general and digital divide.

Simone is currently a mentor of the Women Photograph mentorship program and a member of the Advisory Board for the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program in NYC. Formerly, she was a research and communications fellow at Human Rights First. Simone received her BA in Photography and Human Rights from Bard College.
