The Office of Global Programs (OGP) announced 14 inaugural Global Opportunity Grant (GOG) awards to support locally integrative conferences, workshops, and other scholarly and creative events at NYU's Global Academic Centers (commonly known as the global sites). The awardees include 40 NYU faculty members and global site directors, representing 10 NYU schools, whose projects were chosen through an open call and competitive selection process that generated a highly diverse and invigorating array of proposals.

ITP Faculty Member Tom Igoe was awarded for his Workshop for Lighting Practitioners, Researchers, and Teachers:

The past decade has seen profound changes in lighting design, spurred by the growth of LEDs, increasing use of digital controls, and discoveries about the effects of light on the human body. This workshop will bring together leading practitioners, researchers, and teachers to discuss how these factors have changed how we design and teach, as well as to do something rare: to sit down together, with the tools of our practice in hand, and compare methods on how we make lights, control lights, and teach others to do the same. Topics will include design toolkits, measuring light, methods for field research and data collection, psychological and physiological effects of light on people, and environmental impacts. In addition to NYU faculty, participants will include experts from regional, U.S., and other international universities and firms, and all will contribute to a shared online resource for research, design, and curriculum development.
