Tribe Against Machine e-Textile Summer Camp Taiwan Atayal 2017, 2018 is a fusion project that brings together traditional community re-construction, technology, and cultural heritage preservation disciplines. This annual art festival invites e-textile experts from a European e-Textile Summer Camp to collaborate with Taiwan's Atayal tribe (Lihang Workshop) to expand its textile cultural context based on anthropology and sociological aspects, engaging the traditional craftsmanship group with international communities such as technology, media art, and digital fabrication groups.
Bio
Shih Wei Chieh is a media artist based in Taipei. His wearable art, laser performance have been presented at many global events such as CTM Berlin, SXSW, YouFab, Modern Body Festival, University Technology Sydney etc. His work “Laser Dye” project in 2015 combines laser projection and cyanotype photography innovating the digital printing technology for 3D garments and shoewear. He’s also the founder of “Tribe Against Machine," a social engagement project that invites media artists and e-textile artists to work with the Taiwan Atayal tribe community. After this project he will explore the new role of contemporary art in between expanding disciplines such as social design, science, and material research.
