ATÖLYE: Exploring design of systems across scales

ATÖLYE is a transdisciplinary innovation platform that is based in Istanbul. Co-founded by ITP alumnus Engin Ayaz, ATÖLYE brings together a creative hub and a strategic design studio to address wicked problems and create positive impact.

In this talk, Engin will share the journey of this venture from its onset as an ITP thesis in 2013 to where it has arrived today: 7,000 sq.ft. shared space in a post-industrial factory with 150 curated members and a diverse set of design consultancy projects that span from architectural to digital design, from service to learning design. To date, the studio has completed 50 projects and received multiple national and international awards. Current projects include designing a K12 school, initiating a joint masters program with a university and exploring the establishment of similar creative communities in emerging economies.

Beyond the specific activities, Engin will also share how transposing key attributes of ITP such as scarcity, diversity and permeability fundamentally contributed to designing the DNA of ATÖLYE.

If you are interested in fluid structures, networked teams and discipline-agnostic practices, or simply want to hear the adventures of a like-minded ITP fellow, do come by.
