Jackson Rising: Building a Transition City

Discussion: This discussion will focus on how Cooperation Jackson is working to transform Jackson, Mississippi into a hub of carbon neutral manufacturing, utilizing digital fabrication and other tools and techniques of the 3rd digital revolution. It will also focus on how essential it is for Black and other historically oppressed peoples and communities to fight for technological democracy to overcome the ever growing fabrication and digital divides. 

Bio: Kali Akuno is Co-­Founder and Executive Director of Cooperation Jackson. He served as the Director of Special Projects and External Funding in the Mayoral Administration of the late Chokwe Lumumba of Jackson, MS. Kali is also an human rights educator, writer, and an organizer focusing on building organizations and institutions for working class and oppressed communities. He is the co-editor of "Jackson Rising: the Struggle for Economic Democracy and Black Self-Determination in Jackson, MS", published by Daraja Press in the fall of 2017.
