'Desancanto'

Performance Studies alumni Luisa Marinho (M.A. '19) and collaborator Gabriel Simi present an evening that will begin with a screening of their film Desancanto (Disenchantment) which narrates the mysteries of Encantaria (Enchantment) tradition in the North of Brazil.  This will be coupled with a dive into Brazilian music with live performances from Gabriel Cavalcante (voice), João Camarero (guitar), and Fernando Leitzke (piano). Works by Samba School Paraiso do Tuiuti Carnavalesco (Director of Carnival), João Victor Araujo, will then outline how the 2020’s parade will greet the Encantaria, and texts by the samba school researcher João Gustavo Melo will round out the voices.

The Cinema Series is a one-night opportunity for artists, writers, filmmakers, curators and performers to develop an evening of material to showcase in the theater space on the Wythe Hotel's cellar level.
