My name is is Alfonso Morgan - Terrero, I was born and raised in various neighborhoods throughout the Bronx and West Harlem as my family moved into different homes throughout the 90's and early 2000's. Filmmaking has never been the aspiration, nor the dream, it is and has always been the pervading perspective, the inherent form of my understanding and viewing the world. It is as much a part of my being as the city is. Every element of my upbringing, of my existence, has been interpreted through the cinematic filter that exists in my mind. My aspiration in this film, as well as in all endeavors, is to access and tap into the Truth. Truth is what we feel in our most fulfilled and vulnerable state, as well as in our most excellent and exposed form. I have spent the last five years writing and filmmaking in a more direct and hands on fashion, having studied at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and travelled through the Caribbean, South America and East Asia in search of a greater understanding and connection with the people of this world. 'Champions' is my most direct attempt at making an autobiographical film, perhaps by tapping into my own vulnerability and documenting the world that I knew, and that is now fading away in this ever-changing city, I can serve my people well and contribute positively to the eternally evolving artistic canon.
