The Wake Forest Center for Literacy Education recently hosted its Visiting Scholars Speaker Series and Community Networking Conference, focusing on strategies to protect children from gun violence. Department of Dramatic Writing faculty member Ian Ellis James (William "Electric" Black) served as the keynote speaker for the event who presented A Gun Is Not Fun: Strategies to Keep Children Safe from Gun Violence.
The Center for Literacy Education advances inclusive and community-driven literacy through three key areas: culturally and historically responsive teaching, civic and digital literacies, and school-family partnerships. These pillars guide its efforts to support educators and learners in developing critical and impactful literacy practices.
