Visiting Assistant Arts Professor

JAN ELIASBERG is a writer/director known for creating evocative material featuring performances from some of today’s most respected actors. Her original script, HEART OF THE ATOM, which earned her a coveted place in the Fox Writer’s Intensive, topped the BBC Short List and was selected for Film Independent’s Producer’s Lab.

Jan was a writer/supervising producer/director on NBC/WB’s acclaimed family drama, SISTERS, and, as writer/executive producer, sold the pilot, SPPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS to CBS, as well as THE BLUE WALL, with Angela Bassett attached, and FEARLESS to Fox Television Studios. Jan wrote W.A.S.P., about the Women Air Service Pilots in World War II, for Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman at Fox 2000 and THE GEMCUTTER, a magical family-film with Jan attached to direct at Sony. Additionally she’s written several films for Warner Brothers. Currently she’s completing TRAVELING LIGHT, a low budget feature which she will direct, adapted from her own novel. 

Her prolific and storied directing career includes the feature film, PAST MIDNIGHT, pilots for CBS, NBC and ABC, as well as multiple episodes of television series, including, most recently, PARENTHOOD, RECKLESS, UNFORGETTABLE, BLUE BLOODS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, CRIMINAL MINDS and countless others.  

Jan graduated magna cum laude from Wesleyan University and has an MFA in directing from the Yale School of Drama. Jan has been a guest lecturer at USC School of Cinematic Studies, Wesleyan Writer’s Conference, FIND’s Project: Involve, and is currently a teaching artist at N.Y.U.’s Tisch Film School.
