Tisch may award advanced standing credit for approved standardized tests such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), certain Maturity Certificate Examinations, and for college courses taken while the student was in high school. Please see below for limitations and a full explanation regarding each type of credit.
Students may elect to post advanced standing credits at the end of the first academic year, and after consulting with their adviser. For all undergraduate departments, with the exception of Dance, the maximum number of advanced standing credits that will be counted toward the degree and college credit taken in high school is 32 credits. The Department of Dance does not grant any advanced standing credit and limits the number of advanced standing credits for college courses taken while in high school to a maximum of 8 credits.
Once a student elects to post advanced standing credits on the NYU transcript, they will become a part of the permanent academic record and cannot be removed.
Advanced standing credit will count toward the total earned credits for graduation and may accelerate the student's time to graduation. Students should consider both the academic and financial impact of applying advanced standing credit. Students receiving financial aid should be aware that they may not be eligible for aid in excess of 128 credits. For more information about financial aid and advanced standing credit, contact the Office of Financial Aid.
