Tisch Special Programs kicked off the fall semester with events highlighting three of our spring study abroad programs.
Here’s a recap in case you missed them:
On Tuesday, September 11, Arts Professor Kevin Kuhlke spoke about Stanislavski, Brecht and Beyond: An Integrated Approach to Actor Training in Berlin. Alumnae Molly Johnson and Maria-Luiza Muller joined Kevin and shared what it was like to train in Berlin.
Students who participate in this program not only receive primary training with world-class actors, they are also a part of the FIND Festival at the internationally-renowned Berlin Schaubühne and attend plenty of live theatre. At the end of the semester, they stage a final presentation of the devised works they’ve created in the Brechtian tradition.
We hosted the first in our #TISCHTRAVELS Film Series on September 13. This series of screenings highlights student work created in our international film production programs. Our first screening was a showcase of films from 35mm Visual Storytelling at FAMU in Prague.
Associate Arts Professor Rick Litvin talked to students about the sync-sound film projects they work on and the rare opportunity to shoot 35mm film. Working with celluloid was discontinued at Tisch in 2003, so this program gives undergraduate Film & Television majors the opportunity to use filmstock instead of shooting in digital.
Program alumni Anneliese Lee-Reid, Mateo Obrador, and Federico Penella were part of our panel for the Q & A.
We continued the #TISCHTRAVELS Film Series on Monday, September 17, this time highlighting Documentary Video Production in Havana. Distinguished Teacher Alice Elliott gave the introduction, citing the top 10 reasons students should study abroad in Havana. Program alumni Dominique Cruz, Kyle Goings, Ryan Lee, and Ilona Szekeres joined Alice in a discussion and Q & A session.
The alumni spoke about how they met their documentary subjects, the logistics of filming in Cuba, and how the location influenced their films.
