StoryLab: The Cinematic Screenwriting Experience for High School Students
About StoryLab
Welcome to StoryLab, where ideas become scenes and imagination meets the screen. This hands-on, fast-paced, interactive online workshop invites high school students to step into the world of cinematic storytelling and experience what it’s like to think — and write — like a professional screenwriter. Each StoryLab session will be preview of what high school students will be doing in the four-week summer 2026 Online High School Screenwriters Workshop of which applications are now being accepted.
Led by Scott Bankert, Screenwriter, NYU Tisch Instructor and Creator of the Online High School Screenwriters Workshop, each one-hour session gives students a firsthand look at the creative process behind screenwriting. Pick a prompt, write in real time, and explore how visual storytelling brings emotion and character to life.
Choose Your Story Prompt:
- A Childhood Memory
- A Dream or Fantasy
- A Passion
- A Special Place
- A Friend
- A Family Member
- A Special Object
- A Decision
Each StoryLab session is dynamic and collaborative — a space to experiment, discover, and share. You’ll work directly with Scott and other young writers to uncover the building blocks of screenwriting: character, setting, and conflict.
It’s spontaneous, creative, and a great way to see what the Online High School Screenwriters Workshop is all about.
Space is limited to keep the sessions interactive and personal. Students are encouraged to sign up for more than one session for a deeper dive into the writing process.
Join us, and see where your story takes you.
