Scott J Bankert
Supervisor of Instructional Design and Technology / Adjunct Faculty
Scott Bankert is an independent filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work is rooted in a deep reverence for the power of storytelling—and the mystery, wonder, and beauty of the life that it illuminates. For over 25 years, Scott has followed a creative path shaped by curiosity, exploration, and a belief in cinema’s unique ability to awaken, connect, and inspire.
A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (BFA, Film & Television) and NYU’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (MA, Humanities), Scott’s artistic practice blends extensive technical expertise with an intuitive, human-centered approach. His writing and films trace the quiet beauty and complexity of lived experience, exploring its intersections with the poetic, the overlooked, and the subtly transformative.
As a founding member of TableTop Films, he has produced award-winning narrative, documentary, and branded content for clients including Verizon, Pfizer, Deutsche Bank, Ford Motor Racing, the NFL, and cultural icons like Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. A skilled collaborator, Scott also provides technical and creative guidance to seasoned performers stepping behind the camera for the first time, including Amy Schumer and Clara Bijl. Whether working on a commercial project or crafting a personal film, Scott brings a cinematic vision anchored in empathy, precision, and purpose.
Scott is also a longtime faculty member at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he teaches writing, filmmaking, photography and urban arts. His classrooms are creative laboratories—spaces where experimentation, dialogue, and the joy of discovery are central to the process.
Above all, Scott sees writing and filmmaking as an ongoing search: for meaning, for connection, for glimpses of the sublime in the everyday. With camera in hand and heart attuned to the world’s quiet revelations, he continues to seek out stories that challenge, transform, and invite us to see differently.
