This past fall, we conducted a tenure-track search for an Assistant Professor position. It was an excellent opportunity to expand toward new directions in research and scholarship. During the process, we were informed by the Dean that we could make an additional hire

And we are delighted to announce that, as of Fall 2023, Misty De Berry and Jeannine Tang will join our ranks as our new Assistant Professors in Performance Studies. We are thrilled that we were able to add two of our top candidates to our full-time faculty.

Dr. De Berry is currently a senior lecturer in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Dartmouth College and will bring to Performance Studies at NYU her work on performance studies, Black Feminist thought, queer of color critique, and aesthetic practice. Next fall, Dr. De Berry will teach “Black Performance” for the Graduate Program and “Performance Theory” for the undergraduate program.

Dr. Tang comes to us from The New School and is an art historian who writes about contemporary art and culture in the U.S. and Asia. Dr. Tang will add to our department her scholarship on Queer Theory, Art and Curatorial Histories, and Trans Studies as these intersect with trans Asian art histories. Next fall, Dr. Tang will teach “Methods in Performance Studies” for the graduate program and “Performance Histories” for the undergraduate program.

I hope you will join us in welcoming these outstanding scholars!
