May Artist Salon

Artist Salon

The event is an informal space for current PS students to pilot test works in progress, try out new ideas, and share art of any type with one another. Students can sign up in advance for a 15 - minute slot during the first hour of the salon. We welcome low tech performances of any type or genre. The second hour will be run in an open mic format. Signups for the open mic will occur at the event itself and are first come, first served. Some examples of what can be brought to the open mic portion might include standup comedy, a sketch of a dance, a piece of fiber art you're working on, song lyrics...the possibilities are endless!

Making and sharing art with one another is one of the ways we can fortify ourselves through these stressful times, and we look forward to sharing that space with you. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Yiwen or Raven via the submission form.

Furry Sticker Rituals and gifting cultures

In this month’s edition of my continuing lecture series on the Furry Fandom, I will be discussing stickers.
The myriad roles stickers play within the furry community stretch credulity; truly.  For such seemingly innocuous objects, their function within the ritual of furry identity expression, performance of furry commerce, instantiations of the furry gifting economy, presentations of status, being an illustrated Rolodex (Google it), and serving as the glyphs of Telegram-based--digital logography, doesn’t even BEGIN to explain the richness of Stickers within the furry fandom.
Join me for a brief discussion about furry stickers and a group performance of a furry sticker ritual where everyone can take home some furry stickers.

Crip Narratives and Relationalities: Sharing our Stories Through Dance

This is a showing of two short dance films: "Until the Next Breath" (2021), which is about contracting and surviving COVID in the time before immunity, vaccines, and antivirals; and "Korech," (2023) an excerpt from a larger work I co-directed with San Francisco Bay Area choreographer Eric Kupers.
