Before the Close of Day, a film by Open Arts faculty, Peter Lucas, screens at the opening of the Manhattan Film Festival.
Set during winter storms on the Staten Island Ferry, this experimental documentary is a poetic meditation on Dante’s Purgatorio. As the boats cross the New York Harbor, back and forth through the storms, Cantos from Purgatorio are read, evoking a spiritual passage between places.
Last month the film won a prize for best experimental film at a virtual film festival in Florence, Italy.
This in-person event will be held at the lovely Cinema Village theatre on the corner of 12th Street and University Place on Friday the 25th of June at 5:00 p.m. Tickets can be found here: Manhattan Film Festival Tickets.
