In recent news, Associate Arts Professor Byron Easley has been nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for his choreography in Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, at the Olney Theatre Center in Olney, Md.
Additionally, over the winter break, he choreographed for the premiere of Gun and Powder at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Va., with book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, and music by Ross Baum—both alumni of the Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing (GMTWP) program. The show was developed during their time at NYU, workshopped as the inaugral collaboration between the GMTWP and Tisch Drama's New Studio on Broadway, where Easley serves as head of dance.
