Caroline Gil, Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, Summer 2015, NEH
During the summer, I worked at the Smithsonian's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, under the supervision of the Archive's Director, Stephanie Smith. I was tasked to work in helping the Center gain better intellectual control of their annual Folklife Festival footage. In collaboration, I worked towards developing a video processing workflow to support the use of the footage by video editors and subsequent ingest into the Smithsonian's institution wide DAMS. In the course of my internship, I gained an in depth knowledge of the various steps towards managing born-digital video, including embedding metadata, generating and examining checksums, transcoding and ingest of audiovisual files in dual video production/archival environment.
