Dylan Lorenz, AFS Intercultural Programs, Fall 2015

AFS Intercultural Programs (AFS) was founded in France in August 1914 after the outbreak of WWI. It began as a American volunteer ambulance service with the French army. In WWII, AFS volunteers served with the British military around the globe. After WWII, AFS began established student exchange programs in the spirit of the cultural exchange experienced by the AFS drivers. The AFS archive has a diverse collection of audiovisual material with content from WWI to the early 2000s. I performed an item level inventory of uncatalogued audiovisual items and applied unique identifiers to each item. In the end I catalogued over 1500 items in over 40 boxes. In the inventory I provided notes about the format including preservation and rehousing notes. It was a great collection of various formats from various periods of time ranging from films shot by AFS drivers to public service announcements produced by AFS over the years.
