Chris Banuelos, Major League Baseball, Fall 2012

MLB Productions, in Seacaucus, New Jersey, houses a variety of moving image materials licensed by Major League Baseball. My internship this semester consisted of inventorying and assessing a recently acquired collection, providing an assessment and recommendations concerning their archive facility, as well as identifying and analyzing the risk factors surrounding the video formats they currently use.

In order to accomplish these tasks, I was encouraged to conduct research into various videotape specifications, such as digital video compression and chroma subsampling rates. MLB Productions was also very supportive of me asking questions to individuals in a number of departments concerning a variety of topics related to the archive. The MIAP program has consistently provided me invaluable opportunities through their internships to gain practical knowledge in the working archives of elite institutions.
