Creation Lab: Argentinian Style
IDWPG-UT 1300 | 4 units | Instructor: Jessie Keyt
With more than 280 theaters featuring commercial and independent work, 700 bookstores, an international film festival, underground galleries, vibrant street art, and an opera house considered one of the most important in the world, Buenos Aires is widely recognized as the arts capital of Latin America. In this intense creative laboratory, Tisch students will draw upon the deep well of arts and culture, and collaborate in groups of 2-3 to brainstorm, develop, and present three short works (études). These études can take the form of a script, play, short film, song, dance, photo exhibit, etc. Through a combination of group and individual excursions (e.g., the opera, soccer matches, tango lessons, a mate ceremony), students will be exposed to distinct facets of Argentine culture, which will inform the creation of their three études. The goals of this creative lab are to expose students to the diversity of Latin American arts and culture, stretch students’ creative practices, hone collaboration skills, and develop a deeper understanding of one’s own medium by working with artists from other mediums. When applying for this lab, please indicate which medium you most closely identify (e.g., writer, actor, director, dancer, photographer).
