Summer Study Abroad Application Requirements

STEP 1: CONFIRM YOUR ELIGIBILITY

REQUIREMENT CRITERIA
Academics
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Your GPA reflects your ability to maintain a school/life balance. We require a 3.0 minimum GPA at the time of application in order to ensure that students are prepared for the rigorous academic, artistic, and cultural challenges associated with a term abroad. 
  • You must meet all of the prerequisites for your program.
  • All Incomplete (I) grades for prerequisites must be resolved before applying.
  • You must not be on academic or disciplinary probation, nor currently on medical leave of absence.

  • You must have completed two full semesters and be 18 years or older prior to studying abroad.
    • First-year students should wait until they have completed their first semester to apply. 
Visiting Students
  • Visiting students must meet the same acadmic requirement listed above.
  • You must currently be registered full-time in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university.
Travel
  • You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months past the end of the program you are applying to.
  • If accepted, you must live in NYU-assigned housing.

STEP 2: PREPARE YOUR APPLICATION

Written Responses

  • You must answer 3 questions prompts in addition to any program-specific prompts.
  • Each repsonse must have a maximum of 250 words. Be clear and succinct. 
Creative Resume
  • This résumé should showcase your training, awards, projects, community service, and work experience, whether in or outside of school.
Passport
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months past the end of the program you are applying to.
  • Your passport should contain at least two adjacent blank pages.
  • If you do not have a valid passport, you must upload your application or renewal receipt in its place. 
Transcript
  • NYU Students: Upload a copy of your unofficial transcript from Albert.
    • You can learn more about how to request your transcript here.
  • Non-NYU Students: Your official transcript must be sent to us from a school official or via an official transcript service.
  • First-Year Students: Please wait until you have received your first semester grades to submit your transcript. 
  • Non-US/Non-English Transcripts: You must submit your official transcript AND its official English translation.
English Language Proficiency
  • Required if English is not your native language. 
  • You are exempt from this requirement if (at the time of your application submission), you have completed three (3) or more full-time consecutive academic years in a curriculum where the only language of instruction was English.

Recommendations (OPTIONAL)
  • You can choose to list a recommender's contact information in the application portal and an invitation to complete a recommendation form will be sent to them via email.
  • If you choose to submit a recommendation, it should be from someone who is familiar with your interest and experience in the arts. 
  • We will only accept references from the following: 
    • College/University representative
    • Community group leader
    • Mentor
    • Coach

STEP 4: AUDITION [IF APPLICABLE]

  • Students applying to both programs will complete two auditions: one for Amsterdam and one for Florence.
  • You will receive an audition invitation after we review your application. Only eligible students will be invited to audition. 
  • Non-NYU students must audition via video conference. NYU students are permitted to audition virtually if they are not in the New York City area.

STEP 5: REVIEW YOUR ADMISSIONS DECISION

Notification
  • Notifications are communicated via email to the primary email address used for the application.
Confirmation & Cancellation
  • If accepted, you will be required to confirm your participation via a confirmation form.
  • Confirmation forms must be received by the confirmation deadline found in your acceptance email. 
  • If you cancel after submitting your confirmation form you will incur the $1,500.00 Tisch Special Programs Reservation Fee (nonrefundable and nontransferable).
  • It is important that you review and understand the Tisch Special Programs Cancellation Policy prior to submitting your confirmation form. Details can be found on the Tisch Special Programs Cancellation Policy page.

APPLICATION POLICIES

 
APPLYING TO TWO PROGRAMS
  • You have the option to indicate a second choice program you are interested in applying for.
  • You must meet the prerequisites for your second choice program to be eligible for consideration.
  • Candidacy for your second choice programs is not guaranteed and is only evaluated on a space-available basis. You will only be notified of your status if space is available.
  • You will only receive an admissions decision for your first choice.
