Summer Dance Residency
IDANC-UT 1700.001 | 4 units | Instructor: Pamela Pietro
The three-week Berlin immersion is an experience created to challenge and transform students by offering them exposure to some of the most widely known artists in the world. The generosity of these artists offers a wide range of experiences, methods, experimental performance and methods of engaging across the waters.
The first week starts with a 2-hour contemporary practice based on the selected artist's research (focusing on alignment, strength, balance, and coordination) while the afternoon is spent deepening the study from the morning by focusing on improvisational practices, repertory, choreographic charge, and performance art-making/doing. The second week is a collaboration where those attending our immersive program will join some of the workshops hosted by the b12 festival. The third and final week brings us back together to continue working deeply with the Tisch Summer in Berlin Faculty.
This course is designed for dancers with an intermediate to advanced contemporary/improvisational background, a strong work ethic, responsibility to the collaborative process, and the ability to embody this physically demanding period of work. This is recommended for an art-maker/movement practitioner looking to deepen themselves through a multitude of foreign lenses.
