Congratulations to Performance Studies Alum Lindsay Benacka (M.A. '13) on being nominated for a Heart of Yuma Award for Outstanding Community Leader presented by the Arizona Community Foundation!

Lindsay Benacka has served as the City of Yuma’s Arts and Culture Program Manager since 2016 where she oversees the Division of Arts and Culture which includes directing the Yuma Art Center, Historic Yuma Theatre, the United Building and the 270 Black Box Theatre. Through this position she also advocates for and leads projects related to arts in public policy, public funding for the arts, public art and aesthetic overlay improvements, arts education, and manages a large roster of multidisciplinary arts events. Benacka also serves as the Western Regional Director for the Museum Association of Arizona and is a Team Lead for the Arizona Creative Communities Institute.

Prior to moving to Arizona, she was the Artistic Director for the City of Wichita, KS. She received a Master’s degree from NYU Tisch in Performance Studies and a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College Chicago. She proudly served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Cambodia.
