PS Assembly: Let's Assemble, Or, How to Do Things With Ikea Instructions with Professor Karen Shimakawa

PS Assembly

*** These sessions are only open to current students and alumni. Please check your emails for zoom registration information!

On September 16th, join Professor Shimakawa for a PS Assembly titled Let's Assemble, Or, How to Do Things With Ikea Instructions. For the first Assembly of the year, we'll gather to contemplate zen and the art of (furniture) assembly.  If you have acquired anything recently that you had to put together, and you still have the instruction manual, bring it along and we'll do some close reading!

This fall we will be offering a series of get-togethers for all students and faculty in the department.  Each session will be loosely grounded in a topic that ties to the faculty's pedagogy. The series will be run by alternating members of the faculty who will briefly introduce each session and then facilitate discussion for the group. The assemblies will offer opportunities to come together--across the ranks and in a more informal setting--to discuss how we can approach a project, or an object, or a problem; how we research it; how we put our ideas together; how we communicate those ideas.
