Akeem Muhammad

Akeem Omar Ali is graduating senior studying Performance Studies and Art Public Policy from East St. Louis, Illinois. Akeem's academic interests are in millennial leadership, action civics, critical race theory, multimedia performance, critical Humanism, and performance theory. His professional work focuses on multimedia production, corporate social responsibility, product development, and civic literacy. Akeem is an active member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the German Marshall Fund's Young Transatlantic Network, and the National Communication Association. He is founder and director of Civic Arts Journal, a civic engagement magazine. Akeem has previously worked as a consultant with the Associated Press Product Development and Election Units. While serving on the National Board of Directors of the Society of Professional Journalists, Akeem helped establish a journalism training program offers free workshops on using Facebook's creative and newsgathering tools to newsrooms and educational institutions across the United States in partnership with the Facebook Journalism Project.
