The newest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Eternals, directed by alumna Chloé Zhao, is out Friday, November 5th.

In her film, The Eternals, a race of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years, reunite to battle the evil Deviants. The New York Times wrote how Eternals ‘benefits from Zhao’s feel for natural landscapes and her love for wide open spaces.” The Atlantic calls it “the most poetic Marvel film yet,” praising Zhao for prioritizing “humanism over action. The result is a soulful, refreshing superhero tale.”

“Zhao established herself as an empathetic and immersive filmmaker,” the article continues, “prioritizing the sensual experience of her characters, drawing strong performances from actors and nonactors alike, and capturing people’s essence in minute details and lush photography. Her work feels like poetry.”

Eternals is in theaters everywhere November 5th.
