An Anshan Story uses a real family’s life as its backdrop. Director Charles Dong casts his grandpa, the revolutionaries of the left wing, as the film’s lead, investigating and retracing his family saga spanning three decades of Chinese post-cultural revolution history.

Charles Xiuzhi Dong is a director and producer from northeast China based in NYC. He graduated from New York University with a Film & TV production degree. He has gained a multitude of film directing experience from New York and Europe. His ability to discover and create profound narrative stories has brought great works such as the fifteen-minute-one-take "Cookie Heart," which was selected by many international film festivals. His work spans other film mediums, as he is also known for his prowess in documentary filmmaking and photography.
