Digital Submission

For applicants who cannot attend an in-person artistic review.

What is a digital submission?

A digital submission consists of having a conversation with your evaluator on Zoom, a free video conferencing platform, and following our digital submission guidelines specific to each discipline. Here are the basics:

  • ACTING: You will perform your monologues live on Zoom.
  • MUSICAL THEATRE: You will perform your monologues and songs live on Zoom AND upload singing videos (as a back-up) and dance videos to the Drama Artistic Review portal.
  • DIRECTING: You will upload your portfolio to the Drama Artistic Review portal AND perform your monologue as well as have a discussion about your portfolio live on Zoom.
  • PRODUCTION & DESIGN: You will upload your P&D application essay and portfolio to the Drama Artistic Review portal AND have a discussion about your portfolio live on Zoom.

Digital submissions are considered just a seriously as our in-person artistic reviews and the same team of evaluators reviews our digital candidates.

You may only participate in one artistic review as part of your application.

If internet access in your community or household is challenging, please contact Tisch Drama and we will make arrangements for you to upload videos of your monologues and speak with your evaluator over the telephone.

How do I begin?

1

You must submit the Common Application before you can schedule an artistic review session.

We recommend that you submit your application in advance, as fewer sessions will be available as the deadline approaches.

A couple of days after you submit the Common App, you will receive an email from NYU with a personalized link to the Drama Artistic Review portal. Read our How To Apply page to learn how to get there.

2

All candidates will access the Drama Artistic Review portal to schedule their artistic reviews and provide artistic review materials, which include:

  • photo and résumé
  • information about your monologues, songs or portfolios
  • answers to some basic questions
  • artistic review fee
  • As a digital applicant, you will upload a media portfolio (e.g., required videos or portfolio material) to the Drama Artistic Review portal.

Please review our digital submission guidelines for instructions.

3

When scheduling a digital session, you will choose a date and a 3-hour session time during which you will perform your monologue(s) and songs, if applicable, and have a brief conversation with your evaluator via Zoom, just as you would in an in-person evaluation. Please note that all digital artistic review start times and material submission deadlines are for the New York City time zone (EST).

At the start of the session, we will connect with you on Zoom and engage you in a group meeting with the other digital candidates in your session to answer any questions you may have. Your host from the admissions team will conduct a short informational session about the department and walk you through what the next few hours will look like. After that, the evaluator will begin to contact each candidate one by one for their individual artistic review.

Digital Submission Deadlines

Please submit your media portfolio according to the corresponding deadlines below. If your material is not received by the deadline listed, your artistic review will be considered incomplete, you will not be contacted on Zoom, and you will forfeit your application to NYU.

When do I submit?

We recommend you submit your application well ahead of the deadline, as sessions are filled on a first come, first served basis. There is a tight turnaround between the application deadline and the start of artistic reviews. In order to secure your desired date and to have ample time to prepare your digital submission, we encourage you to follow the recommended application deadlines.

You must complete and submit the Common Application BEFORE you will be given access to the Drama artistic review scheduler.

Your session must be scheduled by the dates below:
