Digital Submission

For those who cannot attend an in-person artistic review

What is a digital submission?

We encourage an in-person artistic review, but we understand that we have applicants from all over the country and all over the world who may not be able to travel to one of our regional artistic review locations.

A digital submission consists of having a conversation with your evaluator on Zoom, a free video conferencing platform, and following our digital submission guidelines specific to each discipline. Here are the basics:

  • ACTING: You will perform your monologues live on Zoom.
  • MUSICAL THEATRE: You will perform your monologues live on Zoom AND upload singing and dance videos to SlideRoom.
  • DIRECTING: You will perform your monologue live on Zoom AND upload your portfolio to SlideRoom.
  • PRODUCTION & DESIGN: You will upload a statement of purpose and your portfolio to SlideRoom.

Digital submissions are considered just as seriously as in-person artistic reviews and the same team of evaluators reviews our digital candidates.

You may only participate in one artistic review as part of your application.

If internet access in your community or household is challenging, please contact Tisch Drama and we will make arrangements for you to upload videos of your monologues and speak with your evauator over the telephone.

How do I begin?

1

You must submit the Common Application before you can schedule an artistic review session.

We recommend that you submit your application in advance, as fewer sessions will be available as the deadline approaches.

In the NYU-specific questions on the Common Application, you will be asked a series of questions which will lead you to the NYU Tisch Drama SlideRoom portal. Read our How To Apply page to learn how to get there.

2

ALL candidates will create an account and provide some artistic review materials via SlideRoom. When you get to SlideRoom, bookmark the Tisch Drama landing page and return to the Common Application.

You must then complete and submit the Common Application. Please understand the Common Application must be submitted BEFORE you will be permitted to submit your SlideRoom materials.

Digital submission candidates will also upload the required videos or portfolios for their discipline to SlideRoom at the same time. Please review our digital submission guidelines for instructions.

3

A few days after submitting the Common Application, you will receive an email from NYU with a personalized link to the artistic review scheduler to reserve a digital artistic review session.

[Please be aware that you will not be able to schedule your artistic review until you have fully submitted the Common Application.]

When scheduling a digital session, you will choose a date and a 3-hour session time during which you will perform your monologue(s), if applicable, and have a brief conversation with your evaluator via Zoom, just as you would in an in-person evaluation.

At the start of the session, we will connect with you on Zoom and engage you in a group meeting with the other digital candidates in your session to answer any questions you may have. Once the group has watched a brief informational video about the department, the evaluator will begin to contact each candidate one by one for their individual artistic review.

Digital Submission Deadlines

Please submit your digital material according to the corresponding deadlines below. If your material is not received by the deadline listed, your artistic review will be considered incomplete, you will not be contacted on Zoom, and you will forfeit your application to NYU.

When do I submit?

We recommend you submit your application well ahead of the deadline, as sessions are filled on a first come, first served basis. There is a tight turnaround between the application deadline and the start of artistic reviews. In order to secure your desired date and to have ample time to prepare your digital submission, we encourage you to follow the recommended application deadlines.

You must complete and submit the Common Application BEFORE you will be given access to the Drama artistic review scheduler.

Your artistic review materials must be uploaded and your session must be scheduled by the dates below:
