Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is designated as a national day of service, emphasizing our mutual responsibility to engage in community-building activities with the goal of social impact. Compiled below are a list of resources that explore the importance of Dr. King's work to catalyze the transformation of unjust systems.
As a university we will be honoring Dr. King during the week of February 13th - 18th. Stay tuned for further details of NYU MLK Week, hosted annually by the NYU MLK Week Planning Committee in collaboration with the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation. The Office of Diversity will be sharing Tisch-specific opportunities for engagement in February as well.
Dr. King, on creating “The Beloved Community”:
“Agape does not begin by discriminating between worthy and unworthy people... It begins by loving others for their sakes” and “makes no distinction between a friend and enemy; it is directed toward both… Agape is love seeking to preserve and create community.”
