Tisch Dance Professor, cari ann shim sham* presents her new short film "body landscapes" (NYC Premiere) at the 53rd Dance On Camera Festival.
The 53rd Dance On Camera Festival takes place at Symphony Space in New York City from February 21-24, 2025, where it will showcase the innovative and captivating work of artist and filmmaker cari ann shim sham*. This year's festival will feature 28 films from 13 countries, with 16 directed by women and 4 by first-time filmmakers.
Her film "body landscapes" (2024) is a cinematic exploration of her generative art fx(hash) project by the same name.
On Saturday, February 22 at 8:30pm, "body landscapes" will have its New York Premiere in the Shorts 1 program, as part of Dance On Camera's celebration of innovation, diverse representation, and the power of the human body.
The film described, "A body acts as a conduit for messages. It writes, it gestures, it speaks. Beyond language, dance communicates". In, "body landscapes", cari ann shim sham*, a wild artist working at the intersection of dance and technology, creates unique self portraits of her emotional states to process the experience of going through breast cancer during the pandemic.
With cari ann shim sham*'s diverse background in technology, dance, and art, as well as her experience in exhibiting and curating innovative works, "body landscapes" pushes the boundaries of dance film as a cinematic medium through stop motion animation born from code.
