Rashaun Mitchell's Tesseract at BAM

Monday, Dec 11, 2017

NYU Tisch School of the Arts Associate Chair in Dance, Rashaun Mitchell, is presenting his performance and collaboration with famed video artist, Charles Atlas at BAM starting December 13th.

From BAM'S website:
"Choreographic duo Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener present the fruit of their years-long collaboration with pioneering video artist (and fellow Merce Cunningham Dance Company alumnus) Charles Atlas, a fearlessly inventive exploration of the body’s three dimensions, in two parts.

The evening opens with a transportive 3D dance film, split into six vividly rendered chapters. Fusing experimental cinematography with otherworldly set and costume design, each section presents a saturated choreographic vision where movement and mise-en-scène seamlessly come together. After a highly orchestrated set transformation, six dancers in gauzy mesh jumpsuits take the stage, carving out crisp, playful, intricate patterns behind a mammoth translucent scrim. Captured by Steadicam and manipulated by Atlas as it unfolds, their hypnotic movement is projected back onto itself as a haunting digital specter."
