BFA '18, Maddie Parish
Maddie Parish joins Finding Neverland the Musical on their 2020 National Tour. Her roles include the ensemble and none other than Peter Pan. As of last year, Parish danced as an apprentice with Parsons Dance Company.
We got to hear directly from her about transitioning from Tisch to the greater dance world.
MP: One of the most useful pieces of knowledge that I left Tisch with was that there is no perfect way to “work the industry,” and that success is not measured in contracts/bookings/venues played. It’s self-defined and unique to each person. When it comes to specific practices that were instilled in me through Tisch Dance, I think a lot of them shine through in the way that I approach taking class. Class in NYC is expensive, so my experience is 100% what I choose to make of it that day. Sometimes I take class to push and challenge myself, other times I choose to take class for the pure enjoyment of just being in a learning environment. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, but making the active choice to show up and be in the room is the most important thing I can do for myself.
