Karl McCool, Museum of Modern Art, Summer 2014, HFPA
During my summer internship at The Museum of Modern Art Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Center in Hamlin, Pennsylvania, I observed and participated in the daily operations of a major film repository, including film handling, accessioning, special collections processing, reshelving and rehousing of materials, cataloging, vault management, and loan execution. I handled both 16mm and 35mm film (safety, acetate, and nitrate), handling print and preprint elements from the 1930s to 2014. In addition to working with film, I also worked extensively with Special Collections items, including animation cells and storyboards, correspondence, and a wide variety of film-related ephemera from their large collection of film stills to costumes, promotional items and toys. My internship also allowed me to observe and assist in ongoing preservation projects.
