Dan Erdman, American Genre Film Archive - University of Texas, NEH

My time at the American Genre Film Archive was a great opportunity to work with a collection during its first steps of organization. In addition to submitting general recommendations via a preservation assessment, I was able to give advice regarding rehousing, the creation of an inspection workflow and revision of the database. I also inspected and researched the history of the individual prints in their Shaw Brothers collection, soliciting censorship records from various Canadian provincial governments in an attempt to recreate their exhibition conditions. While there is still lots of archival work to be done at the American Genre Film Archive, I am glad to have made a contribution to its development at this early stage.
