Savannah Campbell, Wildlife Conservation Society, Spring 2016, IMLS

During the Spring of 2016, I interned at the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in their Library and Archives division. I worked primarily with their collection of approximately 2,000 films, which includes footage shot at the New York City zoos, footage shot by wildlife researchers in the field, and educational films WCS produced to be shown in classrooms. I worked on inspecting the films in their collection and creating an inventory that included descriptive metadata and a condition assessment for each of the films. Based off my inspections of the films, which included A-D testing for vinegar syndrome, I made recommendations for prioritizing films for preservation. I also had the opportunity to work with their photographic negative collection, cleaning and rehousing film and glass plate negatives.
