Andreas Wilson, Brooklyn Museum, Fall 2018, NEH

I did my Fall 2018 internship at the Brooklyn Museum Libraries and Archives. My supervisor was Molly Seegers, Head Archivist for the museum. The Brooklyn Museum's archives houses over 2,300 items of audiovisual material related to the history of the museum and its collections. As part of my internship, I was tasked with cataloging and researching the video collection. Brooklyn Museum has a long and rich association with the moving image and was one of the first major museums to embrace video as a tool for documentation and exhibition. During my internship, I was able to gain greater familiarity with obsolete video formats, as almost every video format imaginable was represented in the collection. I also gained insight into the culture of museums, and how an archive functions within a larger arts institution.
