While interning at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center Archives, I was tasked with creating and updating existing inventories, using standard metadata, that described the moving image material housed in the archives and their provenance. Additionally, I inspected these materials for any signs of deterioration and identified their basic details regarding content. The inventories that I contributed to will be used by the Medical Center Archives in prioritization for preservation and digitization.
The content of the collection, which primarily consists of analog video formats (VHS, U-Matic) and a small number of digital video formats (mini DV, Hi8), includes footage from the medical school student holiday shows from the 1970s to the late 2000s. My time at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center Archives gave me the experience to learn how to compare different audiovisual materials and their preservation needs. The opportunity also built my confidence in conducting proper collection assessment practices.
