During my time at MoMA’s Archives, Library, and Research Center, I worked with Archivist Ana Marie on a digital preservation project in collaboration with Media Conservation and Imaging and Visual Resources. My project consisted of a single workflow that outlined the steps to produce a batch of files to be ingested into the DRMC (Digital Repository for Museum Collections) and the DAMS (Digital Asset Management System). The DRMC is managed by Digital Preservation Specialist, Sarah Gentile, who works in Media Conservation. The repository was designed to house born-digital and transferred art-works, and is now housing the archives’ preservation-level files. The DAMS is overseen by Digital Asset Managers Mark Haydn and Jen Sellar in Imaging and Visual Resources and is the digital access repository for transcoded audio and video files.
I was able to produce seven batches of files, which contained a total of 5,541 files that are now located in the DRMC and the DAMS. This project enhanced my understanding of archival stewardship of digital materials and allowed for inter-departmental collaboration. I learned not only from my supervisor, Ana Marie, but also from my work with Jen Sellar, Mark Haydn, and Sarah Gentile. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and willing to support my work on this project. All in all, I had a wonderful time working at the MoMA's archive (ALRC).
