At Museum of the Moving Image, I worked under Associate Curator of Media Arts Regina Harsanyi to assist with the acquisition of born-digital artworks, primarily Auriea Harvey's "Gray Matter," a series of eight digital sculptures in interactive virtual environments. My first task was to assess the behaviors and integrity of files associated with each artwork. These assessments helped Regina and I to write a comprehensive Artist Technical Questionnaire that we used in our interview with Harvey, where we asked extensive questions pertaining to behaviors, technical aspects, her wishes for future exhibitions of the series, and much more.
In addition to "Gray Matter," Regina and I also began an Artist Technical Questionnaire for LoVid's "Tide Predictor." I was also happy to be credited as an Exhibition Intern for THING + YOU, an exhibition by artist collective "is this thing on?" All of these experiences allowed me to build upon previous knowledge of basic HTML programming, command line tools, and Submission/Archival Information Packages. I also developed new skills in the quality assessment of 3D models and virtual environments, as well as conducting Technical Artist Interviews. Lastly, I gained unexpected knowledge of artificial intelligence tools and their complex implications for archiving and preservation. However, the most important experience of this internship was contributing to an institution that I truly value!
