lucy at vinegar symdrome
My Summer 2024 internship took place at Vinegar Syndrome, a restoration house, home video distributor, and film archive headquartered in Bridgeport, Connecticut. My work at the internship was focused primarily on collections of pornographic, erotic, and sex education film held in Vinegar Syndrome's on-site archive. I inspected, identified, rehoused, and researched hundreds of 16mm and 35mm prints and pre-print elements. I also conducted thorough repairs on a four-reel 35mm print of a lost exploitation film in preparation for its digitization, prepared (by inspecting, winding onto projector reels, and packing) two 35mm distribution prints for shipment to theaters, and engaged in various day-to-day archiving tasks. Over the course of the internship, I strengthened my skills in film handling and repair and became familiar with the daily and large-scale functioning of a multifaceted restoration house.
