In the WNYC Archive, my core responsibilities were focused in working with the Digital Audio Tape (DAT) format produced by the New York Public Radio between the decades of the '90s and early 2000s. I gain experience with collection management procedures, digitization of audio tapes, and a better understanding of their cataloging procedures and standards. Due to the possibility of digitizing ten thousand items from the collection, my focus was to identify, sort out, organize, and inventory around seven thousand DATs. I learned how to use their cataloging system, Cavafy, and how to modify the entries and create new ones. I also gained cataloging skills through familiarizing myself with the use of controlled vocabulary and learning the naming convention used by WNYC Archives. Finally, I had the opportunity to transfer to digital files a batch of DAT and learned how to embed metadata.
