Video Data Bank

At Video Data Bank, my primary responsibility involved processing and conducting a preliminary condition assessment of the Phil Morton Memorial Research Archive Collection. Throughout my internship, all video tapes within this collection underwent inventorying and imaging. This entailed creating a comprehensive inventory to record all available details retrieved from the tapes and subsequently capturing images of all inventoried items. Following this, a specific subset of tapes was selected for prioritized digitization. The resulting digitized files were then ingested into VDB's digital preservation system.

Handling the preliminary condition assessment and processing of a collection of this size was a unique learning experience. During this process, I developed my own method for documenting transcriptions of the elements in a clear and logical manner for future reference. I also gained a new skill that involved setting up a basic imaging station and carrying out imaging tasks. Furthermore, through the digitization process, I had the opportunity to work closely with a time base corrector, which allowed me to refine my skills in adjusting luma, darks, chroma, and hue controls. Lastly, throughout my internship, I had the privilege of connecting with numerous professionals in this field, establishing meaningful relationships.
